Taxi and Van Service in Ecuador
|
 |
|
If
you do not have a comfortable vehicle in Ecuador and do
not plan to rent one, taxis tend to be the quickest way
to get somewhere. Also, if you are going to travel in a
group to someplace within or outside of the city, renting
a mini-van could be the best option. This guide will help
you in your search for one.

Taxis
Taxis in Ecuador are yellow in color. Each city has a
specific code like a sticker or plate with they can be
identified by. For example, in Quito, taxis have a very
visible sticker on the side doors that is red in color
with the seal of the Municipality on it.
In Quito
Before the taxi takes you to where you want to go, make
sure that the vehicle has a taxi meter. Taxis begin their
trips with 1USD minimun race, within the city but rates increase
by approximately $2.00 when you take a taxi at night.
In this case you should always reach an agreement with
the driver before getting in to avoid any surprises when
it comes time to pay. Any trip within the city costs between
$1.00 to $5.00; do not let yourself be cheated by taxi
drivers.
There are certain pre-established rates such as the trip
from the Airport to the Center of Quito costs $4.00. The
trip from Quito to the Middle of the World costs from
$8.00 to $10.00. Here are some telephone numbers for taxi

Taxis can also be contracted for an entire day and sometimes
this can be cheaper than contracting or renting a car.
In general, a trip outside of the city costs between $50
and $70.
In Guayaquil
Taxis in Guayaquil have different rates. In general they
do not use a taxi meter so it is better to negotiate with
the driver before getting in the car. In Guayaquil, the
trip from Urdesa to Samborondon costs around $5.00 but
if you don’t negotiate, the same distance can turn
out to be $10.00.
Remember to be smarter than the taxi driver and negotiate
the best way to get to your destination. Also, in Guayaquil,
if the first taxi driver does not give you a good enough
rate, ask the next and tell him how much the first guy
told you and he will get you to your destination for a
cheaper price.
