"Quito Moderno"
|
In Quito, more than 30 years ago, the vocal group of Vozandes formed within the worldwide radio HCJB, also called "The Voice of the Andes", from there the group took its name.
Radio HCJB is dedicated to music programs and to maintaining the citizens informed through a Christian and cultural manner.
The musician Eugenio Jordan was director of the group during the beginning, the series of presentations were inspired by him with the purpose of reaching the population with a Christian message. This is why the concerts by the Vozandes Choir are held during the month of December.
The 90 voices that form the choir interpret national, Christmas and religious music accompanied by the Vozandes Symphonic Orchestra. The group gets together each year in October to practice.
The choir has had five directors, and Michio Osaki is now in charge. He has worked as a musician in the HCJB since 1986. In the beginning, the choir and orchestra were formed by a missionary community, now they are mostly Ecuadorians.
The purpose of these concerts, in addition to sending a Christian message at Christmas time, is to thank the city of Quito for welcoming the foreign missionary community.
