"Viuda Negra"
|
The potent "venom" of Viuda Negra (Black Widow) has already made its way in to the heart of Ecuadorian head bashers: the group has overwhelmingly been nominated “the best Heavy Metal band in the country”.
Viuda Negra was formed in 1996 by two young Quiteños, Santiago Silva (vocals) and Johnny Gordón (drums). The pair had an ambitious dream: to compose innovative heavy metal music with a solid soul searching message.
The band incorporated into its dream various excellent musicians and personalities. Among them the current members of Viuda Negra: Santiago Villalba (guitar), Chelo Guarderas (bass) and Mauricio Maldonado (piano).
Among the bands major accolades are being named as "finalists" in various Ecuadorian music festivals including Rockaso 2001 and Fiora Música. The latter festival allowed their song “Pretendo”, to be included in a CD that was widely distributed in Ecuador in 2002.
In February of 2003, a poll in the radio station “Cadena de Radio Radioactiva” named Viuda Negra the best heavy metal band in Ecuador. In December, “Cultura Rock” radio in the province of Imbabura bestowed the band with the same honor.
On October 31st, 2003 Viuda Negra's dream finally came true with the launching of their first full length CD of progressive Heavy Metal Music: “El Final del Silencio” (The End of Silence). Songs such as: Pacto de sangre, Plumas de ángeles and Melodías para sordos, fill the album with interesting lyrics and energetic sounds.
Here we present their self-titled song: Viuda Negra. Enjoy!
