Supertrio

"Quiteña Linda"

The father-and-sons act "Super Trio" was formed in June 2002 and features Guillermo Subia on the requinto (an Andean guitar tuned one octave higher than a regular guitar) and vocals, with his two musical offspring, Roberto Carlos and Johnny, on lead vocals and electric bass, respectively. Jorge Carrera joins in on percussion from time to time.

The senior Subia attributes the group's special music touch to the family mix. Far from a generation gap, there seems to be a generational synergy at work.

When the family matriarch, mother and wife passed away two years ago, Roberto and Johnny were moved to compose the song "Madre Querida" (Dear Mother). Today this song is part of Super Trio's first CD.

The group has toured extensively in Ecuador and have also had the opportunity to perform Ecuadorean traditional music in Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, The Dominican Republic, Panama, and for Latin communities in the United States and Canada.

The band's patriarch began his artistic life 34 years ago. He served as musical and creative director "Trio Serenata" a traditional Ecuadorean band he formed prior to teaming up with his sons. He also was a ballet dancer at the Primer Ballet Nacional de Patricia Aulestia, and served as Musical Director for the traditional Ecuadorean singer, Paulina Tamayo. At the tender age of 18, he was part of la Compañía de Teatro de Don Evaristo (Ernesto Alban), The Don Evaristo Teatre, as actor and musical director.
