Pueblo
Nuevo was formed in May, 1975 in the Department of Medicine
at the Central University of Ecuador. They were brought
together by the attraction to the new Latin American sound.
They would first begin touring the country and, later
abroad carrying messages through social songs, works by
continental singer-songwriters, their own music, and also
folklore.
Fifteen LPs and eight CDs are the proof of their hard
work. A work that has been expressed on stages in Spain,
Norway, Sweden, Russia, Holland, The Ukraine, Venezuela,
Panama, Cuba, Colombia, Peru, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico,
The United States, and more than 2,000 concerts on all
the latitudes of Ecuador.
Thirty singers and musicians have been part of the group,
each one leaving a footprint of their talent and will.
After over 27 years in the works, they are presently synthesizing
their music in an instrumental fusion of Andean brass
and cord instruments, the percussion, and electronics
which accompany a vocal trio with themes as diverse as
folklore to bolero, singing both their own songs and the
classics from the new Latin American sound.
Some of their hits include Antojitos de Caña, 1978,
Trigo, Mar, y Sangre, 1980, Nueva Cancion, 1982, Soledad,
1983, Por el Camino, 1985, Pueblo Nuevo, 1087, and La
Cajita de Musica, 1993.
