"Automatic Girl"
|
In the summer of 2001, or so the legend goes, a cosmic
child was adopted by a group of musicians in Quito. Since
then, El Kid Cósmico (The Cosmic Kid) has
moved in the eclectic and electronic circles of the capital,
bringing out the Cosmic Kid we all have inside.
Lula Lalama on lead vocals, Gustavo Pareja on the guitar
and electronic music (computer generated sounds), and
Paola Viteri on the drums and back-up vocals make up the
band. Together they create contemporary songs that are
simple in structure but indicative of talent. Electronic
music is new to the country, a genre few have dared venture
into. Paola Viteri agrees that it is difficult to catalog
"fusion" bands, but one can still define categories
such as Electronic Rock-Pop and Electro Funk
Kid Cosmico's music has been influenced by the rock,
funk and pop of the 70's and 80's and include the Beatles,
Radiohead, Bjork, Depeche Mode and Coldplay. Their sole
CD has spawned two hit singles, "Let Go"
and "Ovni Man"
In the band's future plans are the launching of a second
CD and a music video which is scheduled to be released
on MTV.
We hope to hear more from these Ecuadorian Cosmic Kids
and delve deeper into that electronic universe whose potential
seems infinite. We leave you with "Automatic Girl."
