The contemporary Andean music group, CHAYAG, have been spreading their musical works around the world
for more than ten years, sharing the limelight with artists
from other genres and participating in multicultural festivals.
The band fuses ancestral Andean rhythms with contemporary
sounds.
Chayag comes from the indigenous language
Kichwa and means "arrived." Why that name is
explained by Alex, a member of the band. "With the
message of music, we want to arrive in the hearts
of our listeners."
The band members are: Alex Llumiquinga,
who plays practically all the Andean instruments; Jaime
Paredes, founder of the group and who is also well versed
in the diverse Andean instruments; And Marcelo Moreta,
who plays string and wind instruments.
The inspiration for their songs is based
on "daily life and also songs of love, of remembrance
of our grandfathers and our indigenous pueblos",
comments Alex.
Chayag has made more than ten musical compilations produced
in Europe, USA and Ecuador. Currently, the group lives
in Oregon, USA. The band members realize concerts, workshops
and cultural activities in schools and universities. Their
future plans include recording a "Best of Chayag"
on DVD.
This group, which never stops cherishing their country
of origin, would like to leave us a message with their
promotional theme, "Paradise South." Enjoy!
