Centro Cultural Imbabura is an Andean band that promotes
traditional indigenous music and dance of Ecuador's northern
Andes. Wind instruments, especially the bamboo Andean
flute, define their music, which often tells Ecuador's
history in its lyrics.
"Centro
Cultural Imbabura: Music of the Ecuador", the group's
first album, features 12 tracks in a mix of Spanish and
the native Quichua language. Titles include in Quechua,
Pacha Mama (Mother Earth), as well as Spanish songs
Creer al Padre (Trust God), María Traicionera
(Maria the Traitor), Me Dejaste (You Left Me) and
A Mi Lado (Next to Me).
The
band has been at the center of a diverse musical scene
in Imbabura province, but with its new CD, Centro Cultural
Imbabura hopes to make its mark on international radio
stations.
The
CD was recorded with the support of Héctor Morales,
Segundo Córdova, José Morán and Luis
Morales.
The
band is part of a musical network from Imbabura province,
including Grupo Añoranza (Añoranza Band),
Banda Municipal de Cotacachi (Cotacachi's Municipal Band)
and others that promote the Pacha Mama culture by staging
regular events.
