"Alegría"
|
The
folklore band Calima began its public career in the valley
of the Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the world) on
the spring equinox, March 21, 1995. Calima is comprised
of a "family united by Latin-American music."
There are seven members ranging in age from 6 to 17 making
them the Menudos of folklore.
The
name Calima means "silver veil" in quechua,
the native Andean language. The name reflects the characteristic
fog that arises from the Pululahua crater and blankets
the valley of the Mitad del Mundo in the late afternoon.
The
song we selected for this week's MP3, "Alegria,"
was dedicated to Rafael, the abuelito (grandpappy)
of the Andrade clan.
