“Cotacachi Tierra Mía, Nuestro Homenaje a
Santa Cecilia-Patrona de la Música” (Cotacachi,
My Land, Our homage to Saint Cecilia-Owner Cotacachi’s
Music).
Cotacachi,
with a strong indigenous and folkloric tradition, is the
musical capital of Imbabura province, home to a quintessentially
Andean sound.
The
Banda Municipal de Cotacachi, consists of 36 memebers,
men and women of diverse ages, all born in Cotacachi.
The group´’s lastest CD Identidad Musical
(Musical Identity), is part of a series of releases by
the Cotacachi municipality, supported by Mayor Auki Tituaña,
a noted supporter of traditional cutlure. Other releases
in the series include Páramos Andinos by Clímaco
Vaca; Música, Inspiración y Ternura by Armando
Hidrobo, Dulzainas de Oro del Grupo Añoranza, Cotacachi
Tierra Mía by Banda Musical de Cotacachi.
The
CD features twelve tracks which run the gamut of Andean
musical styles, including La Banda de Peñaherrera
(bomba), Ñañita Bonita, Cedasero (albazo),
Pasional, Rosales Musitios, Ojos (Eyes), Desde el Corazón
(From My Heart), (passillo), Te dejaré ingrata
(sanjuanito), Mambo No.5, Serenata Mía (My Serenata)
(cumbia).
The
Mucipipality of Cotacachi is hard at work promoting its
cultural and musical traditions, all part of a master
tourism plan that also embraces handicraft production
and eco-tourism development.
The
Band expresses its thanks to Mayor Tituaña and
the municipality of Cotacachi for their support and commitment
to traditional culture.
