The hip dance club Seseribó is famous for being the first salsoteca in Quito. The club is located in the below ground floor of a building in the trendy La Mariscal neighborhood. A jailer's metallic door, framed by a deep red wall, provides an enticing entranceway to a subterranean world of passionate dance. But first, the legendary mulatto and eternal bouncer Humberto has to let you in!
Entering the hallways, photographs, paintings, masks and other interesting objects cover the ochre tainted walls, columns and tables inundating one with a sense of ¡sabor!
The sound of drums, maracas and trumpets fill the space with Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Suddenly, as if summoned by a higher power, dozens of couples float onto the dance floor and begin to move their bodies in the intricate and sensual way typical of salsa. After a while, it becomes evident that Seseribó is an ideal place to admire the best salsa and son dancers in the city. ¡Caliente!

Seseribó boasts two spacious wooden dance floors plus four seating areas and two well-stocked bars. The combination of service and ambience make Seseribó a favorite nighttime spot in Quito for the connoisseur.
On the night we visited, we were treated to the live sounds of Los Chigualeros, one of the most prestigious salsa bands in Ecuador. The band had the clientele of Sese swaying their hips to the tasty sounds of Ecuador's beach province of Esmeraldas.
Seseribó is not just a pleasure palace. The club also functions as a cultural space for various arts. Live Caribbean music, painting expositions, book presentations and other events have been staged within the walls of this prestigious club.
Leaving the club in the early hours of the morning, I felt like I had left a part of myself in the club. Yes, in a certain way, each one of us constructs the places we visit. For Seseribó, it is the combination of loyal patrons, special guests and forever morphing locale which creates an intangible presence and longing when one is not there.
