Renting an Apartment or House
In the most expensive cities like Quito and Guayaquil, prices for a house or an apartment in the Northern sectors, which is generally the most expensive, range between $500 and $1000 a month. Of course it all depends on the size of the property and number of bedrooms, but if you are looking for more comfortable prices, other sectors of the city and smaller properties can have houses or apartments from $200 to $400 a month.
Remember that you can furnished or unfurnished houses and apartments which will always demand that you sign a contract for the months to be rented and you should verify the condition of the walls, electrical connections, water and the condition of the paint before signing and moving in. Almost all of the landlords require a check or payment of a deposit as a guarantee for any damage that occurs while you occupy the property and it is therefore necessary that you leave the apartment or house in the same conditions you received it in so that you can get your money back.
The local newspapers like El Comercio in Quito and El Telégrafo in Guayaquil, have a daily section in the classifieds with detailed information about the houses and apartments available for rent. Also in the Cybercafes, Spanish schools and other places frequented by tourists, there are sometimes announcements of this type. Visiting the neighborhood you would like to live in looking for announcements of property for rent or sale is also a good way to find what you are looking for.
