Playas
General Villamil Playas, located 113 km from the city of Guayaquil,
it is easy to get here, you only have to follow the coastline and
when you get to Progreso, take the road to the left. It is the closest
beach to Guayaquil. To the North are Mountains: Colorado, Verde, Picón
and Cantera. The coast of this canton is extensive and the most important
beaches are to the South. According to the history of our ancestors,
these beaches were visited by brave Puneños at the command
of Chief Tumbala: master and leader of the Isla Puna. A long time
ago, Playas was only a beautiful beach where the sun shone on the
deserted sand, then the first inhabitants began to arrive from the
sea that they braved in fragile boats.
Montañita
A beautiful beach and an attractive center for vacationing from the
province of Guayas, where every year, thousands of tourists enjoy
music concerts and international beach sporting events, especially
surfing.
Salinas
This is a beautiful beach and resort that is located only 141 km from Guayaquil. For several decades now, it is the vacation spot for the upper class of Guayaquil and one of the favorite destinations for foreign visitors looking for high quality service and comfort. Large skyscrapers, whose white plays with the blue sky and sea, have grown up as well as shopping centers and places for fun.
Jambelí Island
The main attraction in El Oro is the island of Jambelí. It is a group of small islands surrounded by mangroves from which extend pacific beaches, clean and rich in vegetation. Access is from Puerto Bolivar, crossing the sea onboard a motorboat. Small inns and restaurants offer basic comforts for travelers.
Manglares-Churute Ecological Reserve
In the eastern part of the mouth of the Guayas River is the Manglares-Churute Ecological Reserve located 46 km from Guayaquil. This is an area of protected mangroves where several bird species live and species of aquatic fauna. Among the most well known sites in this area is the Lake of El Canclon or Churute. Other species are: brown pelicans, howler monkeys, sloths, boas, herons, etc. There are also marine deposits and at the moment the Information Center is under construction.
Puyango Petrified Forest
The oldest forest in South America is found 110 km from Machala. Its extension takes in an area of 2,659 ha. Formed by a large sample of trees, plant and animal fossils, located in a small valley. The fossilized species date from prehistoric times and make up one of the most important ecosystems on the Planet.
