On this island you can find the largest city in the Galapagos, Puerto
Ayora, with almost 10,000 residents. The Charles Darwin Station tries
to regenerate the populations of the giant tortoises that have diminished
due to the sailors form the 18 th and 19 th centuries. In the crater "The Twins" you can find dense vegetation that sustains a large variety
of birds. The Black Turtle Cove is only accessible by boat and has
a mangrove forest where turtles, small sharks and some rays live.
Isla Bartolomé
Lovers of adventure can admire extinguished craters and from
the highest point on the island you can enjoy a panoramic view of
the surroundings. You will have the opportunity to swim and dive as
well as to contemplate the penguin colonies. There are white sand
beaches with beautiful mangrove forests. Trekking to the highest point
for a view of the entire Archipelago is worth the effort.
Isla Genovesa
The small volcano that formed this island barely managed
to emerge above the surface of the ocean. On this island there are
abundant bird colonies, especially the frigates. You can explore Darwin
Bay and delight in the colonies of frigates, red-footed boobies, masked
boobies and sea petrels.
Isla Baltra
This has what was the first air terminal on the islands,
constructed by the United States during the Second World War. It has
landscapes with giant cactus that split the horizon. It is across
a narrow and picturesque channel from Santa Cruz Island .
