Cacao and the recent production of ornamental flowers are considered
among the products of highest quality in the foreign market. Handmade
crafts are very important for the economy of the lower social classes,
especially weavings and textiles, and are primarily exported to the
European and US markets. The service industries and tourism are also
beginning to generate income for Ecuador.
Cacao
Represents 4.4% of the agricultural PIB, generating a 12% employment rate in agriculture, there are 434,000 hectares of cacao. The main import countries are: the US, Japan, Germany, France and England.
Banana
Ecuador produces 8,036,843 bunches of banana and exports 4,095,191 bunches.
Oil
The capacity of oil processing is 157,500 barrels a day, the annual production rate is almost 380,000 barrels of oil a day, and represents 43% and 66% of the total exports of the country and between 43% and 59% of the general budget of the State.
