Rapeling
and Canyoning
Rapeling is done on an irregular cement structure that
imitates the rock walls of the mountains. The climber
is secured by a cord and wears a helmet. The foot and
hand supports are made up of artificial rocks. Quito,
Guayaquil, Ambato, Baños and Ibarra are some of
the places that have these walls and some operators that
offer these services.
Canyoning or canyon descent involves descending a river
canyon through its stages of formation before becoming
navigable by any type of boat, combining mountaineering
techniques, spelunking and swimming. Baños is definitely
the ideal place for this new sport. Always do this in
the company of a specialized operator.
Tuning
This race is basically a competition of acceleration between
two cars that start at the same point and go a distance
of 1/4 mile (402.336 meters), the winner is the first
person to reach the finish line. This is a sport that
is relatively new in Ecuador, only 2 years old. Quito
and Ibarra are the places where this activity is most
often done and there are official clubs that have races
in El Belen and Yauarcocha.
